Buy resin if you can. It is the purified substance itself, and it is the only form you can verify at home: it dissolves in warm water, softens in your hand, and smells and tastes the way salajeet is supposed to. Powder and capsules are more convenient and often cheaper by weight, but both are easy to dilute with fillers and impossible to check without a laboratory. If you buy either, a batch test report stops being a nice extra and becomes the only evidence you have.

Why verifiability is the whole argument
Every practical purity test depends on the physical behaviour of a resin. It dissolves cleanly and completely. It softens with body heat and hardens when cold. It does not burn. It is smooth rather than gritty. Those tests are set out in how to tell real salajeet from fake.
Grind that resin into powder and every one of those tests stops working. Powder does not soften in your hand. It cannot be judged by texture, because it is already a texture. Dissolution tells you much less because carriers dissolve too.
That is not a small inconvenience. In a market where a waxy mineral called ozokerite is routinely sold as shilajit, the ability to check is the main protection an ordinary buyer has. Powder removes it, and a capsule removes even the chance to look.
When powder or capsules make sense
There are real reasons to choose them, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest.
- You cannot tolerate the taste. Some people genuinely cannot, and a supplement nobody takes is worth nothing.
- You travel with it. Resin in a jar is messy. A capsule is not.
- You want a fixed dose and do not trust yourself to judge by eye.
If any of those apply, the trade is a real one. Just make it knowingly, and raise your evidence requirements to compensate: a named source, a stated purification method, and a batch laboratory report for heavy metals.
What to watch for in powder
Carriers and fillers. Many powders are not pure dried salajeet. Ask what else is in it and in what proportion.
Weight comparisons that are not comparable. A gram of powder and a gram of resin are not the same amount of salajeet if the powder carries a bulking agent. Compare on that basis, not on price per gram.
"Extract" and "standardised" language. These are not automatically bad, but they describe processing you cannot see, so they raise rather than lower the need for a test report.
